Leading online entertainment and game publisher Tencent has announced a distribution partnership with US studio Hi-Rez to localise and distribute the developer’s F2P MOBA title Smite in China.
Hi-Rez co-founder Todd Harris said that the studio has collaborated closely with Tencent on the game’s content in China, “to ensure that Chinese gods are authentic to that culture, while still making those gods available to all Smite players worldwide.

According to Tencent VP Steven Ma, the game’s unique MMORPG and first-person shooter elements will stand out in the Chinese market, and offer gamers in China “fast paced and competitive” gameplay.
In open beta since June, Smite has already registered 2 million players in North America and Europe. Tencent and Hi-Rez plan to launch the title’s closed beta in China this October.
