In anticipation of the lifting of a ban on gaming devices in China, Microsoft and China’s BesTV New Media have announced plans to jointly develop a game console and streaming platform for the Chinese market.

“This is the first step of many to come for Microsoft and BesTV,” said a Microsoft spokesperson. “We look forward to exploring new opportunities for bringing entertainment offerings to China, but we have no further details to share.”

IPTV provider BesTV has 18 million subscribers in China, Southeast Asia and Europe. E-Home Entertainment Development, the partners’ new company, will be launched with US$237 million in capital with BesTV controlling 51 per cent and Microsoft the remaining 49 per cent.
