Nintendo has announced that the publisher’s European headquarters in Großostheim will be closed, with operations in Europe to be consolidated at Nintendo’s offices in Frankfurt.

“Nintendo of Europe has entered into a consultation process on a number of changes it is intending to make to its European business which, in the long term, will better enable the European business to adapt to the rapidly changing business environment,” said Nintendo in a statement.

Nintendo has also confirmed that the changes will make redundant 130 positions at various European locations.

“These intended measures have not been made lightly and have only been arrived at after thorough analysis and careful consideration,” Nintendo continued. “The intended measures will sadly have a direct effect on some of the employees based in the Großostheim and Frankfurt offices in Germany and would lead to the release of approximately 130 permanent employees.”

Last month Nintendo reported a worse than expected, third consecutive operating loss of 46.4 billion JPY (US$457 million) on revenues of US$5.63 billion, as well as a net loss of 23.2 billion JPY (US$229 million) for the fiscal year ending 31 March.

In April, the publisher also confirmed the scheduled May closure the publisher’s sales subsidiary in Taiwan, Nintendo Phuten, with Nintendo Hong Kong to take over local product sales and distribution.
