Chinese mobile F2P game publisher FunPlus has announced at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco that the company has secured US$74 million in new funding to finance overseas expansion. Investors included Orchid Asia Group, GSR Ventures and Steamboat Ventures.
“We are pleased that Orchid Asia Group, GSR Ventures and others have recognized our success and are coming on board at this time to accelerate our growth to the next level,” said FunPlus CEO and co-founder Andy Zhong in a statement. “This new round of funding will help us expand more quickly into new markets and to recruit and hire the best game development talent in the world.”
Zhong and Yitao Guan founded Beijing-based FunPlus in 2010, and the publisher’s mobile titles include Family Farm, Seaside, Royal Story and Fantasy Slots. According to the company, Family Farm alone has over 4 million DAU worldwide, with revenues mainly from Europe and North America.
FunPlus plans to expand staff in the company’s San Francisco, Vancouver and Beijing offices, as well as release several new titles in 2014.
“We want to be a developer-operator with a truly global reach,” said FunPlus CSO Fiden. “We want to be a China-based company that is successful outside of China. The game industry is going through an incredible transformation, and we want to be ready for it.”
