The roll out of updated SDKs from mobile gaming analytics specialist GameAnalytics , which bring a host of new tools both to Google’s mobile operating system and games development tool Unity, directly follows on from a major update to the iOS SDK, with a host of new built in tools better equipping studios for the increasingly competitive world of mobile games development.
It’s all part of GameAnalytics’ desire to be the go-to tool for developers looking to make their mark on the industry, providing them with the richness and flexibility they need to make their games as appealing as possible to mobile’s diverse and expanding audience. After three years of fostering and improving powerful analytics for game developers, GameAnalytics now has 5,400 active games in its network, and is used by more than 2,000 game studios across the globe, tracking 3.5 billion events every day.
Key new features in the updated iOS SDK and the brand new Android SDK include extensive dedicated player progression events designed to facilitate level balancing, by measuring the way in which players consume and move through game content.
Just as important, the updated SDKs now have enriched in-game economy analysis, both for real money transactions (now with purchase validation) and for in-game resources such as hard and soft currencies, XP, etc. This way developers get more reliable data, and they’re able to deduce whether or not you’re giving too much gold in your game or, conversely, if players are running dry too frequently.
“We wanted to get the new version of the SDKs out there as soon as possible, so we started with a limited release for iOS and are now following up with Android support. This ensured the event structure we’ve envisioned will work flawlessly on all platforms we’ll be supporting,” said Allison Bilas, VP of Product. “The competitive nature of modern day mobile development means more and more developers are working on cross-platform releases these days, which means we need to have just as firm a grip on the major platforms as they do. The fact we can now offer the exact same level of service across both iOS and Android is a major new weapon in our arsenal. We’re also currently working on rolling the new events structure out for Xamarin, Corona and the REST API for all other platforms, and more are in the works.”
Other new features in the SDKs include custom dimensions that lets you tag players with any piece of information that aids with your analysis of your game’s performance, and a new Benchmarks dashboard, that helps you compare your game’s performance to that of the whole GameAnalytics network, giving you the context you need to make informed decisions that can improve your game.
