According to a report from Japanese business daily Nikkei, game companies in Japan are rapidly shifting their smartphone game focus overseas.
Nikkei noted that Namco Bandai and Square Enix Holdings have already established local development studios in overseas markets, and that DeNA has also announced plans to expand overseas game production during the current fiscal year.

The report also pointed out that although Japanese foreign expansion has lagged behind Western game companies, domestic competition has recently intensified in Japan and driven game producers to look overseas for growth opportunities.
