Konami’s results fall on declining game sales

Konami Corporation has reported 217.6 billion JPY (US$2.13 billion) in net revenues with 10.3 billion JPY (US$106 million) in operating income for the fiscal year ending 31 March.

Net profit fell to 6.2 billion JPY (US$60 million), down from 13.2 billion JPY (US$130 million) in the previous fiscal year.

Game sales were also down by 37 per cent at 10.8 million units, compared to 13.61 million games sold last year.

Konami’s soccer titles sold 3.89 million units for the year, and Metal Gear games sold 3.37 million units. SNS titles such as Dragon Collection and native app downloads also contributed sustained earnings for the year, according to the company.



The Japanese publisher forecasts a 2.7 per cent rise in net revenues with a 16.5 per cent increase operating income and 1.1 per cent growth in net profit for the next fiscal year.

Konami is planning to release seven major console titles in 2014 and expects to launch the same number of games by the third quarter of next year.
