Nintendo’s latest financial report reveals that the company sold just 160,000 Wii U consoles for the period from April to June this year.

Wii U sales have dropped sharply since 3.06 million were sold in the first quarter after the console’s launch. “Wii U hardware sales still have a negative impact on Nintendo’s profits,” conceded a spokesman for Nintendo.

The results were bolstered by game revenues and 3DS console sales of 1.4 million. The previous generation Wii console also sold 210,000 units in the most recent quarter.

Nintendo’s sales were US$832 million for the quarter, down 3.2 per cent from same period last year, with a profit of US$88 million.
