Chinese game publisher Perfect World is reportedly developing several console games for Microsoft in anticipation of the upcoming Xbox One launch in China.
Last year Beijing-based F2P publisher Perfect World Entertainment announced the establishment of a console game publishing division.
“Perfect World Entertainment has long been the leader in free-to-play PC titles,” said Perfect World CEO Alan Chen. “Bringing our titles to consoles is a natural progression for us, and we can’t wait to set a new standard for console MMORPGs and other genres.”
In May Microsoft and BesTV New Media confirmed plans to launch the Microsoft Xbox One next-generation game console in China this September.
“This is a historic moment in our partnership as we work toward the first official Xbox launch in China,” said Microsoft Xbox Chief Marketing & Strategy Officer Yusuf Mehdi. “Xbox One will also be the first system of its kind to launch in China.”
Last year the companies revealed plans to develop a game console and streaming platform for the Chinese market, in anticipation of the government’s lifting of a ban on the manufacture and sale of game consoles in China. The ban was officially revoked in April.
