Sega Sammy has confirmed that the company has established a subsidiary, Sega Dream Corporation, to acquire the assets of Index Corporation, the bankrupt parent company of Japanese developer and publisher Atlus, for 14 billion JPY (US$140 million) this fall.
Sega has stated that the purchase will “achieve steady flows of revenue” and “maximise the value of acquired IPs” through further development of Atlus titles on multiple gaming platforms. The acquisition will also include control over Atlus headquarters and staff in Tokyo.

Index filed for bankruptcy earlier this year, 24.5 billion JPY (US$224 million) in debt. About 20 companies bid to acquire Atlus from Index, with bids reportedly well over Index Corporation’s expectations.
