Sony has announced the PlayStation Now game streaming service at CES in Las Vegas. Developed by Sony-owned streaming technology provider Gaikai, the platform will allow Sony hardware owners (including PS4/PS3 consoles, handheld PS Vita and other Sony devices like HDTVs, tablets and smart phones) to stream games from PlayStation Now cloud servers.
The service is scheduled to roll-out in mid-2014, with a closed beta period beginning this month. Payment models for the service will include rentals and subscriptions, according to Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Andrew House.
Future plans for PlayStation Now include live-TV and access from non-Sony hardware. “Eventually the service will expand beyond PlayStation platforms and Sony devices, allowing users to stream PlayStation games on numerous other Internet-connected devices,” said a Sony spokesperson.
