9Apps, a part of Alibaba-owned UCWeb and one of the most popular Android app marketplaces with more than 160 million monthly active users worldwide, has announced the launch of an InDev Program (worth USD 20 million) to help Indian independent and startup developers.
The Program aims to help over 100 independent and small developers over the next two years in user acquisition and monetisation. With the right platform for distribution and monetisation, developers in India will come up with content and apps relevant for the Indian market – compact, localised and in regional languages.
India, as second most populous country in the world, has witnessed rapid growth in internet internet usage and penetration. According to a report by Deloitte, Indian mobile users generated almost nine billion app downloads in 2015, five times more than that in 2012. The spending on mobile games in India is estimated to grow from 416 million in 2015, to 1.2 billion US dollars in 2018, as per report by SuperData.
