Japanese mobile gaming and ecommerce platform DeNA reported first quarter results of JPY 52.2 billion JPY (US$532 million), up 10 percent year on year. The company’s operating profit for the period came in at 17 billion JPY (US$173 million).
Earnings from DeNA’s social gaming platform Mobage and MobaCoin virtual currency were strong. MobaCoin revenues in Japan reached US$559 million, largely via Mobage. MobaCoin earnings overseas were circa US$80 million. The period’s results were lower year on year, which the company attributed to a lack of new releases in the quarter.
DeNA has also announced plans to launch 60 titles in Japan and 20 new games overseas (in-house IP and jointly produced titles) by the end of the fiscal year.
