iOS and Android

Apple has announced that the company’s App Store for iOS devices posted US$10 billion in global revenues for 2013.

Popular games last year included Candy Crush Saga, Puzzles and Dragons, Minecraft and Clumsy Ninja. Apple also revealed that iOS developers have earned over US$15 billion in lifetime sales via the App Store.

According to a report from analyst firm Gartner, Google Android OS is also posed to pass the one billion active device owners landmark in 2014, up 26 per cent from last year.

75 per cent of new users are expected to come from emerging markets in Asia, Latin America and Africa, where budget Android smartphones and tablets dominate.
