DeNA lowers forecast on falling browser sales

Japanese mobile game publisher and Mobage social gaming platform operator DeNA has lowered estimated fiscal year operating profits down sharply on falling browser game revenues, a mainstay of the company’s business.

DeNA forecasts operating profit for the fiscal year ending 30 June at circa 6.5 billion JPY (US$64 million), at 62 per cent drop from the previous year.

Despite a global market shift in gaming from Internet browsers to apps on mobile devices and the company’s own falling browser revenues, DeNA has stated that the company expects to maintain and revitalise user engagement in browser games.

After the announcement, shares in the company declined 20 per cent to 1,302 JPY at the close of trading in Tokyo, the lowest in four years.
