Apple is reportedly expanding development and manufacturing of the company’s iOS hardware in Asia, with several hundred engineers and supply-chain managers recently added in Shanghai and Taipei.
According to reports, the new staff in China and Taiwan will enable Apple to more strongly influence the design of touch screens and other components in the company’s flagship iPhone and iPad devices.
Apple currently has circa 600 engineers and operations employees in China, and well over 600 designers and managers in Taiwan. Worldwide Apple has roughly 43,000 employees, not including staff in retail stores.
