Capcom To Combine Japan And US Mobile Operations

Capcom will consolidate its U.S. and Japanese smartphone game businesses, with the aim of helping the company develop hit titles according to a report from Nikkei Asian Review. The Osaka-based company will appoint Midori Yuasa, a corporate officer serving as CEO of U.S. unit Beeline Interactive, to a new leadership position overseeing the combined operations starting April 1. She has experience developing hit smartphone games.

Separate operations in Japan and the U.S. have hindered Capcom’s development of big-selling titles. The consolidated operations are to develop smartphone games for Japan, such as by incorporating characters from popular console games. The U.S. unit will distribute them in overseas markets.
Capcom’s initial target is a 3% share in the Japanese mobile game market. Capcom’s mobile operations now generate revenue of some 4 billion yen ($33.8 million), accounting for just 5% of the company’s overall sales.
