As ChinaJoy concluded in Shanghai, ChangYou reported financial results for the end of the second quarter, with revenues of US$182.4 million, a quarterly increase of 24 per cent and 3 per cent growth compared to Q2 last year.
Specifically, ChangYou online game revenues rose to US$168.3 million, an increase of 24 per cent from the last quarter. ChangYou second quarter net profits also reached US$75.2 million, an increase of 9 per cent over Q1 but a decline of 3 per cent from 2012.
In conjunction with the financial report, ChangYou stated that recent business diversification, including integration of the company’s 2011 acquisition of web game developer Seventh Avenue, had been achieved. As such, the company would implement new operating indicators to better inform investors on the company’s performance.

According to the new operating metrics, ChangYou games averaged 36 million monthly active accounts, an increase of 4 per cent. The growth was attributed mainly to increased player subscriptions to Dragon and Divine Comedy, which partly offset player decline in its Bouncing Church franchise.
ChangYou also reported a platform channel average of 85 million monthly active accounts, an increase of 4 per cent. This growth was attributed to a second quarter rise in unique visitors by the company’s web game operator.
ChangYou also noted 4 per cent growth in Seventh Avenue’s average ARCA to 142 RMB, a quarterly increase of 129 per cent, and attributed to sales of new in-games items in its Divine Comedy title.
