Flappy Bird dev confirms new titles

Nguyen Ha Dong (Dong Nguyen)

After a brief hiatus, Hanoi-based developer Nguyen Ha Dong (Dong Nguyen) has announced that he is working on several new titles.

Games currently in development by the Flappy Bird creator include Checkonaut, an action game/chess hybrid, as well as Kitty Jetpack and an untitled shooter. Checkonaut is slated for a March/April release.

As reported earlier, Nguyen removed his viral mobile hit title Flappy Bird from Android and iOS app stores worldwide in February.

The F2P 2D game was created by Nguyen over several days and released in May of last year. Early in 2014 the title topped app store rankings in China and North America, and was estimated to be earning Nguyen and Vietnamese publisher .GEAR Studios circa US$50,000 per day in advertising revenues in February.

As the game rose in popularity, Nguyen was repeatedly accused of copyright infringement. After receiving increasing criticism online, the developer decided to remove the title, saying in a Twitter statement, “”I am sorry Flappy Bird users. I cannot take this anymore.”
