Giant Interactive’s revenues up 11.3 per cent

Chinese game developer and publisher Giant Interactive announced second quarter revenues of 588.1 million RMB (US$95.8 million), an increase of 2.7 per cent from the previous quarter and a rise of 11.3 per cent year on year. The company’s net profit for the period was reported at RMB 367.6 million RMB (US$59.9 million), up 12.7 percent from the previous quarter, up 19.6 per cent over last year.

The company’s active paying online game accounts in the second quarter totalled 2,328,000, an increase of 3.1 per cent from the previous quarter and up 5.0 per cent over last year. Average revenue per user was 244 RMB, an increase of 2.5 from the previous quarter and a rise of 4.8 per cent year on year.



Giant CEO Liu Wei said in a statement, “We are delighted that the company’s new flagship MMO Xian Xia World has attracted a large influx of players in the second quarter. Future MMO games will continue to be the core of our business as well as our main source of income.”

“We have also secured exclusive rights to WeMade Entertainment’s MMORPG Heaven 2 for China,” noted Liu, “and are working together to complete the Chinese localised version, with the release slated for next year.”
