Parent Sega looking to Atlus to develop dormant IP

According to a statement by Sega Sammy COO Naoya Tsurumi, the company would “love to have (newly acquired Atlus) utilise any of Sega’s dormant IPs.”

Sega IPs that are currently dormant include Sakura Wars, Jet Set Radio and Space Channel 5.

“There are plenty that haven’t been active,” added Tsurumi. “However, the new company (Sega Dream Corporation, the Atlus parent company) just recently got started, so there’s nothing on the table for now, but we’ll definitely be giving it more thought.”

As reported earlier, Sega Sammy acquired the assets of Index Corporation, the bankrupt parent company of Japanese developer and publisher Atlus, for 14 billion JPY (US$140 million) this fall.

Tsurumi also believes Atlus can to introduce more genres to the Sega portfolio. “Considering Atlus’ strengths, Japanese RPGs would be a prime example.”
