SQEX cancels Hitman sequel at MTL studio; mob dev continues

Square Enix Eidos Montreal

Square Enix has confirmed that a next-gen Hitman sequel in production at the company’s Eidos Montreal studio has been cancelled.

“IO Interactive is developing a new, AAA Hitman game that will be coming to PC and next-gen consoles,” said the publisher in a statement. “Square Enix Montreal is fully focused on mobile (games) development, some of which are related to the Hitman franchise.”

The Hitman project in Montreal was first announced in 2012. Now series founder IO Interactive continues development of an upcoming Hitman PC/console title, with the Montreal studio working on related franchise projects for iOS and Android platforms.
