Square Enix has closed the company’s mobile game development operations in India, a year after the Mumbai-based studio was established by the Japanese publisher.
Former Square Enix India VP Atul Vibhandik confirmed the closure. The studio reportedly had several mobile titles in development but failed to gain final approval from the company’s headquarters in Tokyo.

The closure follows a recent round of layoffs at US-based Airtight Games, developer of the mystery thriller Murdered: Soul Suspect in partnership with Square Enix, as well as layoffs at the publisher’s Eidos Montreal studio last month.
