Square Enix has joined with Indonesian Gotanda Electronic to start Square Enix Smile Works, the company’s first game studio in Indonesia.
Indonesian’s increasing purchasing power and consumer confidence, as well as an expected rapid expansion of the online games market, were key factors in Square Enix’ decision to partner with Gotanda to found the new games development operation in the country.
Square Enix Smile Works will initially create artwork and manage social games in the Square Enix portfolio. The studio is also slated to produce of minigames for the Square Enix virtual community “Town and Niko-tsu”, also destined for localisation to Indonesia in the near future.
