Nintendo has a new president: It’s Tatsumi Kimishima, former CEO of the Japanese gaming company’s North American operations, as its new president, selecting a low-profile successor after Satoru Iwata’s passing on July 11, 2015.
Tatsumi Kimishima has been at Nintendo since 2000 when he was appointed director of its Pokemon characters business. He moved to Nintendo of America in 2002, and became director and chairman of Nintendo of America in 2006. Tatsumi Kimishima, will have the job of steering the company through a difficult period of transition as it tries to cater to user demands in the growing mobile gaming market.
Nintendo also announced a number director role changes. Genyo Takeda will now act as the company’s “Technology Fellow” in addition to general manager for the Integrated Research and Development Division. A new title of “Creative Fellow” was announced for star game designer and senior managing director Shigeru Miyamoto. Nintendo said the title was meant to convey his role in providing advice and guidance.
The company said the new titles were part of a “large-scale revision” of Nintendo’s organizational structure that will be effective from Wednesday.
