Japanese mobile game developer and publisher GungHo Online Entertainment reported third quarter sales of US$424 million, a 5 per cent decrease from the previous quarter. Operating profit fell by 12 per cent in the period, to US$238 million.
Shares in the company have also dropped sharply since peaking with last month’s US$1.5 billion acquisition of Finnish mobile developer Supercell. GungHo’s market capitalisation has now fallen to US$9.3 billion from over US$15 billion earlier this year.

GungHo Online Entertainment created the mobile F2P hit Puzzle & Dragons, which has also seen user numbers drop in recent months. The company is looking to expand the franchise to the Nintendo 3DS as well as push mobile distribution overseas. The company’s newest F2P release, Divine Gate, has registered circa 1 million players in Japan.
