KR StarCraft pro recognised as athlete by US

Kim 'viOLet' Dong-hwan

US immigration authorities have granted Korean professional StarCraft II player Kim ‘viOLet’ Dong-hwan a five-year athletic visa.

Kim’s P-1A visa approval, reserved for ‘internationally recognized athletes’ visiting the US, comes after Canadian League of Legends professional Danny ‘Shiphtur’ Le became the first esports player to secure this type of US immigration status earlier this year.

Kim, ranked 63 among StarCraft II players worldwide, has earned US$95,830 from professional esports competition over the last three years. Live game streaming provider Twitch and StarCraft II publisher Blizzard Entertainment also supported Kim’s visa application.
