Chinese ZTE network technology provider ZTE Corp has announced a partnership with leading Chinese game developer The9 Ltd to domestically develop, manufacture and distribute a game console. According to ZTE the new console, called ZTE9 Fun Box, will launch in China next month.
The Fun Box will include 2GB RAM, USB and micro-USB ports, Bluetooth controllers and dual antenna Wi-Fi, and stream HD video online and recorded video through connected USB devices. The partners are also reportedly discussing games and other content for the platform with publishers in China and overseas.

As reported in January, the Chinese government will now permit foreign-funded enterprises with production and sales operations in the Shanghai Trial Free Trade Zone to sell game consoles across the entire country, ending a thirteen year ban.
Microsoft and China’s BesTV New Media also announced plans to jointly develop a game console and streaming platform for the Chinese market last year, in anticipation of a suspension of the ban.
