Sony has confirmed that the company’s PlayStation Portable handheld console will be discontinued in Japan, with a final hardware shipment to domestic retailers in June.
North American deliveries of the ten-year old device were discontinued in January. The status of the PSP in Europe has yet to be confirmed by Sony.

The Sony PSP was first launched in Japan in December 2004 and has sold circa 80 million units worldwide. The PlayStation Vita, Sony’s portable successor to the PSP, was released in Japan in 2011 and overseas in 2012.
