Japan’s Famitsu reports that Mario Kart 8 for Nintendo Wii U has sold over 350,000 copies since the game’s domestic release on 29 May.
Earlier this week Nintendo announced that Mario Kart 8 for Nintendo Wii U had become the fastest selling game in the console’s history, with over 1.2 million copies sold worldwide since the title’s release last month.
Mario Kart 8 for Nintendo Wii U was also released on 30 May in North America and Europe.

“The early response to Mario Kart 8 demonstrates that the best days for Wii U are still ahead,” said Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime. ”This year’s E3 is just days away, and it will be all about the future games for Nintendo platforms.”
The original game in the franchise, Super Mario Kart, was launched in 1992 on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in Japan. The previous Mario Kart sequel, Mario Kart 7, was launched for the Nintendo 3DS in 2011.
An arcade version, Mario Kart Arcade GP DX, was also developed by Bandai Namco and released in Japan last year.
