Dota 2 developer Valve has confirmed that the International prize pool for 2014 has reached over US$9 million USD. The prize pool is now the largest in eSports history.
The Dota 2 International competition is funded by fan donations and support for The Compendium, an interactive book that allows Dota 2 fans to participate in The International.
Dota 2 is especially popular in e-sports competitions, with teams competing for both peer recognition and cash prizes.

Last year Perfect World secured an exclusive license for distribution of the F2P online title in China, and Nexon licensed the MOBA game for Korea. Valve manages DotA 2 in North America, Europe and other overseas markets.
The finals for The International 2014 start on 18 July.
