Nintendo has revealed that Mario Kart 8 for Nintendo Wii U has sold over 2 million copies worldwide since the title’s release in May.
Last month Nintendo announced that Mario Kart 8 had become the fastest selling game in the Wii U console’s history with over 1.2 million copies sold, including over 350,000 units in Japan alone.

The original game in the franchise, Super Mario Kart, was launched in 1992 on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in Japan. The previous Mario Kart sequel, Mario Kart 7, was launched for the Nintendo 3DS in 2011.
An arcade version, Mario Kart Arcade GP DX, was also developed by Bandai Namco and released in Japan last year.
