Chinese mobile publisher Yodo1 gets US$5M from SingTel

Yodo1 and SingTel

Led by Singapore’s SingTel, the Chinese smartphone game publisher Yodo1 has acquired US$5 million in Series A funding to meet demand from Western game studios looking to enter China’s 300 million+ iOS/Android mobile market.

Yodo1 recently reported 25 million active Chinese players of its popular smartphone games, including Ski Safari, Powder Monkeys, Clouds & Sheep and Hero Academy.

“The SingTel Group is a perfect partner for Yodo1, with over 450 million mobile subscribers across Southeast Asia and other high-growth emerging markets,” said Yodo1 CEO Henry Fong, adding that the new funding will help to expand Yodo1’s capacity to work with more Western game companies, build out the company’s distribution platform and grow its in-house production team.

“Emerging markets such as China and Southeast Asia present very exciting prospects for mobile games developers,” Fong continued, “with close to one billion mobile subscribers migrating from feature phones to smartphone handsets over the next two years.”
