The Chinese team NewBee has won the Dota 2 International championship at the 2014 Grand Final in Seattle, taking home a cash prize of over US$5 million.
The historic esports event marked the first time two Chinese teams met in the final competition, as well as a record breaking US$10.2 million prize pool.
NewBee, a recently organised team, defeated fellow Chinese players ViCi Gaming, a veteran squad featuring former members the Chinese DotA teams TongFu, Invictus Gaming, LGD and RisingStars.
The Dota 2 International competition is funded by fan donations and support for The Compendium, an interactive book that allows Dota 2 fans to participate in The International.
Dota 2 is especially popular in e-sports competitions, with teams competing for both peer recognition and cash prizes.
Last year Perfect World secured an exclusive license for distribution of the F2P online title in China, and Nexon licensed the MOBA game for Korea. Valve manages DotA 2 in North America, Europe and other overseas markets.
