NCSoft has confirmed that the Korean online game publisher’s popular MMORPG Guild Wars 2 has sold 3.8 million units in China since the title’s debut in the country on 15 May.
As in Europe and North America, the Chinese version is purchase-to-play with no additional fees.

“Given the game’s high quality and beautiful design, compared with free-to-play and time-based pay-to-play games, this business model, where players purchase the game once and then play it for as long as they wish with no subscription fee, has the highest chance to appeal to the broadest base of players in China,” said Guild Wars 2 China GMO Atlantis Lai in an earlier statement.
Guild Wars sequel Guild Wars 2 was launched for Microsoft Windows and Mac OSX in 2012, and has sold over 3.5 million copies worldwide.
