The South Korean military has reportedly implemented a surveillance platform in the peninsula’s demilitarised zone based on Microsoft’s Kinect motion controller technology.
Developed by independent programmer Jae Kwan Ko, the system was installed by the Korean government in the DMZ last August. Military authorities have only recently revealed the existence of the motion-detection platform, which can distinguish between humans and animals, to the public.
“I’ve never even thought of a game system performing national defence tasks,” Ko is quoted as saying. The newest version of the Microsoft Kinect controller is scheduled to launch in Korea this year.
