Japanese production has been halted for Nintendo’s best selling Wii game console, according to a statement on Nintendo’s website in Japan. The company announced plans earlier this month to discontinue Wii production in Japan in October.

According to a statement from Nintendo of America, the Wii will continue to be available for purchase overseas. “The announcement that the Wii console has been discontinued is specific to Japan,” a company spokesperson said. “There is no change in the status of Wii in the United States, and it is available for purchase this holiday season.”
Nintendo’s Wii has sold more than 100 million units globally since the game console’s release in 2006.
