Nintendo has revealed plans for a revenue-sharing affiliate program on YouTube for creators using the Japanese publisher’s gameplay footage.
The initiative follows Nintendo’s widely critisied attempt to block unauthorised use of the company’s IP on YouTube last year by issuing Content ID Match copyright claims on the online video distribution platform.

“Nintendo has been permitting the use of Nintendo copyrighted material in videos on YouTube under appropriate circumstances,” said Nintendo in a statement. “Advertisements may accompany those videos, and in keeping with previous policy that revenue is shared between YouTube and Nintendo.”
“For those who wish to use the material more proactively,” added Nintendo, “we are preparing an affiliate program in which a portion of the advertising profit is given to the creator.”
If Nintendo consents to use of the material, the company will reportedly place ads in YouTube videos using Nintendo’s content. Ad revenues will be divided between Nintendo, YouTube and the YouTube video creator.
