Nintendo has announced that the simultaneous Japanese, European and American launch of Pokémon X and Pokémon Y has sold over 4 million units, and the two titles have become the fastest-selling 3DS games to date.
“The early response to Pokémon X and Pokémon Y not only reaffirms the ongoing passion of Pokémon fans,” said Nintendo president Satoru Iwata in a statement, “but also indicates that an entirely new generation of gamers are eager to experience the franchise for themselves.”

The Pokémon franchise has sold 245 million games since the series began in 2006.
