Sony has announced that PlayStation 4, the company’s next generation home gaming console, has sold over 7 million units worldwide since the console’s launch last year.
“The response from the global gaming community for PS4 has been overwhelming and we are truly humbled that gamers are selecting PS4 as their next generation console of choice,” said Sony Computer Entertainment president and group CEO Andrew House in a statement.

Sony’s newest flagship game console is now available in 72 countries worldwide. Sony PlayStation 4 launched last year on 15 November in North America, in Australia, Europe and Latin American countries on 29 November, in Korea and Hong Kong on 17 December and in Singapore on 19 December.
Sony PlayStation 4 also went on sale this year in India on 6 January and launched on 15 January in the Philippines. The console’s domestic debut was on 22 February.
