Ragnarok Online, once very popular MMORPG (Massively multiplayer online role-playing game) in Thailand will see its apocalyptic virtual world in Thailand ended on June 30, Asiasoft Corporation Plc announced.
Asiasoft said the online game service will have to be officially ended at the end of June because its contract with the Korean developer of the game will be terminated on the date.
The game service was launched in Thailand in 2002. During the first few years of the game service, it was so popular that some game players used real money to buy the game’s currency and items for enhancing games characters’ performance, leading to some reports of cheating among some players. Its popularity prompted then government to regulate service time for children by Internet café and online game shops.
Asiasoft said in its press statement that the end of Ragnarok Online service would not affect revenue of the company because income from Ragnarok in 2015 was less than 5 per cent of the overall revenue of Asiasoft.
