Singapore-based telecom SingTel and US mobile game publisher PlayPhone have announced a partnership to develop WePlay, a new mobile game distribution portal in Asia.
“With PlayPhone, we have a very strong partner in building a global community of mobile social gamers,” said SingTel’s multimedia chief Cheong Hai Thoo. “SingTel aims to bring exciting digital content and engaging mobile experience to our customers across Asia and we are keen to work with local and international developers to do so.”
WePlay will be preloaded on SingTel handsets in Singapore and across the APAC region, including Australia, India, Indonesia, the Philippines and Thailand, and will also feature carrier billing for game purchases. PlayPhone will provide titles from the company’s development partners as well as maintain the distribution platform’s technological infrastructure.
“SingTel is a huge win for PlayPhone and our family of developers and sets the stage for PlayPhone to establish a prevailing mobile gaming footprint in Asia,” said PlayPhone CMO Anders Evju. “Exposure to over half a billion potential players is unrivalled by other platforms.”
