Sony has revealed that the PlayStation 3 has sold over 80 million units globally since the game console’s launch in 2006.
Microsoft’s Xbox 360 has sold comparable numbers since the console’s release in 2005, and the Nintendo Wii, also launched in 2005, has sold over 100 million units worldwide. Sony’s previous generation console, PlayStation 2, recorded lifetime sales of 150 million units.
Sony also announced that 4,332 PlayStation 3 games for retail have been released to date, and PlayStation Network online accounts for PlayStation 3, the PlayStation Portable and PlayStation Vita total over 150 million.
