SQEX NA/EU Marketing VP Stewart departs

Karl Stewart

Square Enix strategic marketing VP for North America and Europe Karl Stewart has announced that he is leaving the company.

“It has been an unbelievable ride over the last eight years,” said Stewart. “Square Enix is an amazing company (and) has given me the opportunity to grow and do what I love to do best, work in (a) creative and ridiculously talented company at the heart of the video game industry.”

Stewart joined Eidos in 2006 and later became global brand director at Crystal Dynamics, acquired by Square Enix in 2009. Stewart worked with over 25 games during his career at Eidos, Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix, including several titles in the Tomb Raider series.

“By far the crowning glory of my time at Square Enix has been working at Crystal Dynamics and being a big part of rebooting the Tomb Raider franchise,” added Stewart. “The opportunity to be a part of something as special as that game and around so many talented colleagues in Crystal Dynamics is something that I will remember for the rest of my career.”

Stewart leaves the Japanese publisher to take the position as brand development and strategic partnerships VP at Burbank-based Petrol Advertising, with whom he worked previously on Batman: Arkham Asylum, Tomb Raider and Thief marketing campaigns.
