Confirming a message on Nintendo’s Japanese website, a Nintendo spokesperson has reaffirmed that the company plans to discontinue production of Wii consoles for Japan.
“This specific message was referring to the Japanese market,” a Nintendo representative is quoted as saying, “No specific time frame has been stated yet.”

The company has yet to comment on Wii production plans for other regions. Nintendo’s Wii has sold more than 100 million units globally since the game console’s release in 2006.
