The Chinese State Council has lifted a 13-year long ban on the sale and manufacture of games consoles by overseas companies in China.
According to a government statement, foreign-funded enterprises with production and sales operations in the Shanghai Trial Free Trade Zone will be permitted to sell their game consoles across the entire country.
The Ministry of Culture will reportedly also be responsible for regulation and approval of all game consoles before distribution in the marketplace.

Chinese authorities began reconsidering ban on the domestic sales of game consoles last fall in conjunction with the inauguration of the Shanghai Trial Free Trade Zone.
Government sources say that the new policy will be implemented over the next three years.
