Game-related phishing rises to 95 per cent of reports in Japan

An August survey by Japan’s Anti-Phishing Council Japan reports that daily attacks targeting online Japanese game users rose significantly from the previous month.

According to the council, 364 phishing cases were recorded in August compared to 237 in July, the largest rise since 2005. Reported phishing sites also increased to 149, 47 more URLs than the previous month. A total of eleven brands number were also exploited by phishing scams, six more than in July.



Phishing sites that attempted to defraud account information from online games also rose dramatically, with attacks on online game accounts comprising for 95 per cent of total cases reported.
