WCS 2014 to bring back KR GSL, up local qualifier slots

StarCraft 2 World Championships

Blizzard Entertainment has announced that the StarCraft 2 World Championships (WCS) in 2014 will reintroduce Korea’s GOMTV Global StarCraft II League (GSL), as well as expand local qualifier slots in North America and Europe.

“Since (the US and Europe have) become the home WCS region(s) for players from countries such as China, Australia and Taiwan, we will reserve qualifier spots for players from those specific regions,” said Blizzard in a statement on the publisher’s Battle.net website.

The global esports tournament will retain its three-season format as structured in North America, Europe and Korea, with next year’s championship prize pool totalling US$1.6 million. Twitch.TV will also officially broadcast WCS 2014 competitions in each region.
